An amazing virtual tour

Number 39 in the Squadron/Signal Publications "Walk Around" series, Walk Around MiG-21 Fishbed, Part 2 is the latest in this top-notch series of close-up photographic examination of military aircraft models. Both black-and-white and color photographs of the MiG-21 Fishbed, a model particularly associated with the Soviet Air Force, showcase the depth, splendor, strengths and weaknesses of this magnificent aircraft. Captions to each photograph delve into high technical detail as well as interesting trivia, such as how alcohol sprayed using pressurized air was used to de-ice the windshield. Walk Around MiG-21 Fishbed, Part 2 is an amazing virtual tour, and by far the next best thing to actually getting up close and personal to a vintage plane, complete with extensive and expert commentary.

MiG-21 Fishbed Part 2

Well, if you bought MiG Walk Around part 1, you have to get part 2, right? Of course it depends on how fanatical you are, both are superb books in their own right. Part 2 covers NATO Codenames Fishbed J through N (MiG 21 SM/M, M/SM, MF, L, SAU. The photos here are from MiG-21's in museums in Germany, Bulgaria, Russia, Poland as well as original B&W or color photos of the MiG during the Cold War.
36 pages are in full cover. One could argue there should be more. I think so for this price, which is why I gave it four stars. However, I cannot imagine an angle or view of the plane that is not covered here. Wheel wells, engines, cockpits, ejection seat, airframe are covered in extreme detail and close up. This is perfect for modelers who are committed to accuracy. 4 pages of color drawings to show different camouflage paint schemes that were used over the years by different countries.
One thing not reviewed well - weapons only two photos in the whole book of missles. My favorite photos were the ones of the radar and cut away of the radar showing the 1960's black box technology. For true lovers of aviation, fans of Soviet planes, modelers, this is a great addition to the collection. I would love to be able to see these birds up close and personal - this is the next best thing.

Technically and visually outstanding in basics of Mig Fishbed

I sincerely enjoyed this document. The cocpit photos and their variations on various instruments locations, ie AoA indicator location to forward gun camera and AoA wing outside the forward fuselage was interesting.
Good research for my outline of RENDEVOUS @ YELLOWKNIFE...Thank you Amazon!
